Art has always been more than a pastime for me; it’s a cherished part of my identity. From sketching to crafting personalized gifts, I’ve always found joy in creating unique pieces that carry personal meaning. My love for colors and passion for exploration inspire me to keep pushing boundaries.
Like many hobbies, life’s demands often overshadowed my creative pursuits, causing me to drift away from art. However, as 2023 transitioned into 2024, I made a heartfelt promise to myself: to reignite my passion and give art a permanent space in my life.
Turning a Resolution into Reality
I knew that merely making a resolution wouldn’t be enough to stay committed. I needed a structure to keep myself motivated and accountable. That’s when I decided to create an Instagram art page—a platform to showcase my creations and a tangible way to track my progress. It wasn’t always easy to maintain, but the appreciation and encouragement from followers, even strangers, inspired me to keep going.
Challenges and Breakthroughs
Not everyone supported my journey. While some were indifferent, others were openly discouraging. Even my mother, who introduced me to art, once questioned my passion. “Are you a kid? Why waste time coloring paper?” she asked. Though disheartening, her words ignited a determination in me to prove otherwise. I took my art beyond paper and created a massive wall mural in my home, getting more attention towards my artworks – and my mom’s perspective shifted—she admired the artwork and began to embrace my hobby as a meaningful pursuit.
Art is a universal language that everyone admires, yet societal norms often impose restrictions. There’s a pervasive belief that art has an age limit or doesn’t warrant significant time or financial investment. But I believe that if we continue creating, no one can resist being inspired or moved by the beauty of art.
This year has been transformative for me as an artist. I began with watercolors, transitioned to acrylics, and expanded to larger canvases, including wall murals. I also explored new mediums like resin art and caricatures. On special occasions, I created personalized gifts, blending creativity with heartfelt intent. Each step forward brought growth—not just in skill but also in confidence and the drive to explore further.
Rediscovering Myself Through Art
As 2024 comes to an end, I feel a profound sense of accomplishment. Not only did I keep my resolution, but I also rediscovered a part of myself I thought I’d lost. Art is no longer just a hobby; it’s a journey of self-expression, resilience, and personal growth. My Instagram page became more than a showcase; it turned into a diary of my progress and a constant reminder of my commitment to my craft.
Each completed artwork brings immense satisfaction and happiness, fueling my desire to create more. The added joy of gifting personalized art to family and friends makes the journey even more fulfilling.
