What sparked your interest in travel?
Travel has been an integral part of my life since childhood. Every year, my family made it a tradition to take me on trips once or twice, which sparked my initial love for exploring new places. When I became financially independent, travel became one of the first ways I celebrated my newfound freedom.
Over time, I realized that travel serves a deeper purpose for me. It’s my reset button, a way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and rediscover calmness. I often feel deeply satisfied listening to music and staring at nature, forgetting everything that causes me stress. This mental healing therapy is my main motivation to travel.
What positive impact does travel have on you?
Travel gives me opportunities to connect with people, whether old friends after a long time or new individuals with different outlooks and perspectives. Besides, seeing new landscapes and structures inspires me and contributes to my personal growth. Travel can be customized to one’s preferences, but it should be an integral part of one’s life. It is essential for personal growth.
What places did you visit last year?
Last year, I traveled less, but I managed to visit places like Goa, Varkala, Munnar, and Vizag.
My favorite travel memory is a trip to Rameshwaram, which turned into an extended plan covering Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, and Madurai. It was an ultra-low-budget trip without anything fancy, and the extension was completely unplanned. Everything was decided on the spot by asking people how to reach the next destination. The uncertainty of the entire trip and the happiness of achieving it finally made it unforgettable.
Do you have any travel goals? Any specific places?
I dream of exploring all the science museums of the world. The stories of the evolution of science and technology from their fundamentals excite me immensely. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet taken a step in this direction.
Some places I have in mind that I would like to visit are:
- Bletchley Park Museum
- Thomas Edison National Historical Park
- Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
If you could travel anywhere in time, where would you go and why?
If I could time travel, I would go to 18th-century England, during the Industrial Revolution. I am fascinated by this exciting age of new discoveries and inventions. It would be even better if I could be a Royal Society fellow, witnessing all the great minds of this era working on remarkable things in one place.
How do you typically plan your trips? How do you manage to travel while maintaining your work commitments?
Generally, I prefer a meticulous plan, ensuring everything is arranged beforehand. Since my travel goals focus on relaxation, I aim to avoid last-minute surprises.
When it comes to planning vacations, I find that regular leave is usually enough. I firmly believe that work can always wait—nothing critical will fall apart if I take a few days off. Work has its own rhythm, and taking time to recharge only helps me return more focused and refreshed.
Any places on your bucket list for this year?
A good trek, perhaps at Kashmir Great Lakes. I also want to explore the northeastern part of India.
Any advice or pointers for first time travelers?
Stop making excuses—it’s okay to start small. If you can’t convince your friends, take a leap and travel solo. Although I haven’t experienced solo travel, I’ve heard from fellow travelers that it’s highly addictive. Once you start, there’s no looking back.
