A day at Universal Studios, Singapore

As a kid, Jurassic Park was one of my favorite films. I have often fantasized about being a part of real-world Jurassic Park running away from dinosaurs. For all Hollywood fans out there, Universal Studios in Singapore is a dream destination that brings the magic of the silver screen to life. This post summarizes my visit to Universal Studios during my recent visit to Singapore.

Universal Studios is a 20-hectare Hollywood themed park located in the resort island of Sentosa in Singapore. It is the only Universal Studios located in Southeast Asia. It is one of only two in the entire continent, the other being in Osaka, Japan.

The park is divided into seven immersive movie-themed zones, each offering its own exhilarating rides and captivating live shows. Whether you want to stroll through the streets of New York, face the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park, or step into the futuristic world of Transformers – this park has something for everyone. Bear with me as I explore the zones and their attractions in detail.

The city that never sleeps – New York

This zone tries to replicate famous landmarks in New York city. The bustling streets of New York are filled with shops and restaurants mimicking the city’s vibrant atmosphere. It invokes the feeling of being in the heart of New York City. Visit it during a busy day, you would forget that you are in Singapore – it’s New York through and through.

Glamour and Glitz of Hollywood

This zone tries to provide a glimpse into the magic of movie making. A standout attraction here is Lights, Camera, Action! Hosted by Steven Spielberg, where you get a behind-the-scenes look at how Hollywood creates its most stunning special effects. The pre-recorded show, hosted by Spielberg himself, showcases the creativity and technology that make blockbuster movies come alive.

Sci-Fi City

This zone is a paradise for science fiction fans, featuring two adrenaline-pumping rides:

  • Transformers: The Ride 3D: This immersive experience places you in the middle of an action-packed battle between Autobots and Decepticons. You’ll fight alongside Optimus Prime himself to save the world. A must-try for Transformers fans!
  • Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon: A pair of dueling roller coasters. The Human coaster offers a seated, traditional experience. The Cylon coaster, with no floor beneath your feet, provides an inverted thrill. With inversions near the coastline, you might feel like you’re plunging into the sea

Pro Tip: Both Transformers and duel coasters have a huge queue of people waiting for their time in the ride. If you are looking to cover all the rides in all the zones, I would recommend that you opt for the more expensive “Fast-Track” tickets that have a separate queue that is less crowded than the regular one. For best discounts, get the tickets beforehand on the Klook platform.

Mysteries of Ancient Egypt

This zone immerses you in the grandeur of ancient Egypt with towering temples and a desert-like atmosphere. Its main attraction, Revenge of the Mummy. It is a high-speed indoor roller coaster featuring sudden drops and dark turns as you journey through an ancient Egyptian temple.

The Lost World of The Jurassic Park

Welcome to Jurassic Park. This explains the zone in a line. Filled with lush greenery with raptors that appear all of the sudden through the greenery – This zone gives you the chills of walking through the dinosaur world. Combined with the sound effects as you walk along, this zone brings the franchise of Jurassic World to life.

This zone has two rides, Jurassic Park Rapids and Canopy Flyer. The Rapids takes you on a raft journey through the Jurassic Park jungle as you encounter dinosaurs along the way. Canopy Flyer is a suspended coaster that gives you a sense of flying as you travel through the lush green landscape and dinosaur exhibits.

Plan Ahead: Weather and Tickets

The last two zones in the park are Far Far Away which tries to replicate the fantasy fairy tale world and the world of Madagascar that brings the Madagascar movie series to life. It was raining on the day we visited the park. All the rides on the park were suspended for the whole duration of the rain and we kind of missed out on these two zones. Check the weather. Ensure that you visit the park on a clear day if you don’t want to miss out on the excitement.

Tickets to Universal Studios Singapore cost around 5000 INR / 50 GBP for a person. The Fast Track ticket (Universal Express) that cuts short the queue costs an additional 4500 INR / 45 GBP per ticket. You can save up on bucks by buying Klook Pass Singapore for 4900 INR/49 GBP which includes tickets to Universal Studios and 33 more attractions like Singapore Flyer/Singapore Cable Car.

Universal Studios Singapore is more than just a theme park—it’s a gateway to the worlds of Hollywood’s most beloved movies delivering unforgettable memories. It in itself is a reason to visit Singapore.
